Presets & Layer Memory

Styling one sheet is work. Styling the next twelve should not be. Studio has three ways to carry styling forward: the Layer Style Database, style presets, and Paint Style.

Layer Style Database

The Layer Style Database remembers how a layer name should look, and offers it back on every future import. If your office draws lawns on L-TURF, you style L-TURF once and every drawing that uses the same layer standard arrives already styled.

Teaching it

1. Style the layer the way you want it.
2. Right-click the layer in the scene tree and choose Remember Style.

To forget one, right-click the layer again and choose Forget Remembered Style. The item only appears when that name is remembered.

Using it

When a CAD import contains layer names the database knows, Studio asks: "Recognized styles for N layer(s)... Apply remembered styles?" with the names listed. Accepting applies them all as a single undo step, so it is safe to try.

The database lives in %APPDATA%\AutoStylePro\LayerStyleDB and is per-user. Copying that folder to another machine takes your styling standard with it.

Style Presets

A preset is a saved bundle of style settings you can apply to any layer or object: fill, texture, stroke, shadow, the lot. Presets are for the styling you reuse across projects that is not tied to one layer name: a house pond-water treatment, a standard shadow, a concrete you like.

Saving

Right-click a styled layer or object and choose:

• Save as Preset... goes to your global library in %APPDATA%\AutoStylePro\Presets, available in every project.
• Save as Project Preset... stores it inside the .asp, so it travels with the file when you hand the project to someone else.

Applying

1. Open the Library panel at the bottom of the Layers and Objects tab.
2. Set the category list to Style Presets (or All).
3. Select the layer or object you want to change.
4. Click the preset.

Presets can be renamed and deleted from the library panel, and imported from files shared by a colleague.

Paint Style

For spreading a style around inside one drawing, Paint Style is faster than presets: select the source layer or object, click the brush button in the scene tree toolbar, then click each target. Esc ends it. See Layers and Objects.

Which One to Use
